 wn as Freedom Day\, is a celebration marking the end of slavery in the Uni
 ted States. This year\, as in all years\, the holiday will be held on June
  19th across the country.  Juneteenth is celebrated on the anniversary of
  the Emancipation Proclamation that abolished slavery in Texas and other f
 ormer Confederate states in 1865. Even when the South conceded victory to 
 the northern troops\, and the war was officially over\, many slaves in the
  deep south did not know that they were now considered free.\n\nThe church
  office will be closed Friday\, June 18th in recognition of Juneteenth.\n\
